Cruise 2023 The Ingalls Family Gathering Day 2

Day 2

I got to bed early last night so I got up at 6:00 am this morning for our coffee. My second favorite thing to do is having coffee in the morning on Deck 10 at the back of the ship. Breakfast was good and the usual seaday foods, steak and eggs for me and Eggs Benedict for Brett. From there we walked through the ship and eventually made our way back to the room to change for whatever exercise we were going to do. It has been our experience that the first couple of days on the ship several people are going to try and get into their fitness so the gym is beyond full. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about people getting into their health but the gym on this ship is small and packed with equipment. This means that no matter where you are people a too close.  We decided to walk around the rotisserie walk on the 12th deck. It is outdoor and offers spectacular views. The wind up there is interesting, one direction not too bad the other it feels like you are going to be blown away. It is a defined walkway with arrows indicating the direction but, no surprise, many people just meander around on it. Even the crew person running the cornhole game was all over the track. I said excuse me a couple of times but I could sense my patience being tested. We walked around it about 15 times which according to them is just over 2 miles. After that we went down to the 10th deck and found some of my family and talked to them a few minutes before letting them know about the Serenity Bar on deck 14 which we all adjourned to. Brett and I enjoyed our afternoon cocktails and eventually went to get some lunch. Naptime followed and then time to get ready for the evening. All good, I don’t really do formal attire except that I will wear a nice shirt and colored jeans. We were supposed to meet brother Brad and Betty at guest services to make some changes but as we got there my sister Candy let me know they had booked her for the Chef’s Table dinner on the wrong night. She was booked for the night before, not this night. I told her I would try to correct it. I met with Ivona at the guest services counter and explained what happened and she made a call and had it changed. All good the night was saved or so I thought. We waited at guest services and got Brad’s changes made and then off to the Alchemy Bar for our beginning of the evening martini. We met several of our group and enjoyed a cocktail before heading to our destination for the Chef’s Table experience. We got down to the kitchen where they had us standing around a large square table. We soon realized there was an issue but didn’t know what it was. After a few minutes one of the chef’s, Singh, said there were too many people they were set up to serve 16 people but there are 17 people in attendance. They then went through this very embarrassing process of calling out our names which we were to then step back away from the table. After going through his list it left June’s boyfriend Bill standing at the table alone. It appears he was not on the list. It got even more cumbersome when they put him on the phone to someone. By this time several of us said we would either sit away from the main table or if needed we would excuse ourselves.  They finally found a solution and manage a way to seat 17 of us. Here we go, I was seated at the head of the table but that is not the end of it. I was asked to slide to one side that someone would need to sit next to me and they intended to have Bill sit next to me. OH NO! I have nothing against Bill but he is not going to sit next to me, my husband can. I moved the name tags but it still meant that Brett and I were sitting away from the rest of our family. The dinner never got better, we were for the most part served last and we felt like an afterthought. I was trying not to get upset but I wanted to go to the restroom and just not return. Later Brett shared he had the same thought but we didn’t want to leave each other alone. 4 hours after starting the dinner finally ended and we could leave. Brett and I decided our day was over and got a glass of wine and headed back to the room and spent the end of the day on the balcony enjoying the evening air and talking about our day, this is my favorite time of the cruise.

Things to know from today

      • The first couple of days the gym is going to be crowded and it is very small. Be prepared to be really close to people that are sweating and breathing hard.

      • Get the Hub app. You cannot function without it. You will need it to read the menu’s and make reservations to Your Time Dining.

      • Guest Services is very helpful! If you have a problem go see them and they will do everything they can to assist you. Thank you and shout out to Ivona.

      • The word for this cruise is Oblivious, the people are walking around completely unaware of anyone or anything else. Bring your patience!
