Day 4
We are now on day 4 of our trip and all is going pretty well. We started the way we always do except I had to apologize for my bad behavior the previous evening. Brett is always very generous with his forgiveness. Coffee with 4 of our travel companions. After coffee down for breakfast and then we head off the ship to our first port of call, Roatan. We don’t do much there but I did purchase some wood mats to use as decorations for the dining room table. We met with several of our group at the Fat Tuesday’s. Wow the music was so loud I could not hear anyone. After standing there for a few minutes several of us decided to take the nature walk over to the beach area. We did see an iguana and had several photos opportunites. After the walk we went back to the rest of the group at Fat Tuesday’s and then back to the ship. We took our nap and then it was time to get ready for the evening. We met everyone at the Alchemy Bar for martini’s and then off to dinner. I went down to the Maître d not knowing what to expect but earlier in the day a young women that had helped with our table the night before stopped Brett and I and said to ask for her, Franchesca, and she will make sure we have a table. As I walked up to the Maître d station the young lady looked at me and said “are you a table for 17 again this evening?” I said “No we are only 14 tonight” and she said okay give me a minute and I will have your table prepared. The previous night’s seating issue appears to have been solved. I had the meat balls, pork chop and melting cake all of it was really good. Brett had the fried cheese, sausage and pasta and melting cake, he said it was good. We were both tired so we had an early end to our night but that was not the end. Our room 9325 appears to have a noisy door. We both woke up in the middle of the night thinking there was an alarm going off on the ship. It was not enough for us to get up and check it out but enough that it kept me from having a peaceful sleep. When I got up in the morning I found the noise was from our door leading out to the balcony. I will report it and see if there is anything that can be done.
Take aways for this day
-
- Roatan is very nice but you will dock at what appears to be an area built just for the ship. You really will not get a sense of the country if you don’t take an excursion.
-
- The shopping at this port area is okay. There are a lot of t-shirt and souvenir shops all of which looks like it was made in China.
-
- There is a section all the way in the back that has a flea market feel and appears to be locals renting sections and selling locally produced products. This is where we purchased the wooden mats.
-
- The nature walk is a planned path though what looks like the natural growth of the island. You will walk up a hill and then down the other side. Pay attention to the branches, you may see an iguana or two. There are also several spots for you to take some incredible photos.
-
- There is also a built-out beach area with lot’s of places to sit and enjoy the sun and water. There are also bars and restaurants here as well.
