Remembering Aunt Helen

I posted a photo of my Aunt Helen yesterday but maybe should have waited until today. Sadly today is the day in 2011 that my Aunt Helen left us. Her and I shared a very special connection. We wrote to each other for several years and always managed to find some time to sit and catch up with each other when I visited. I ask myself what do I want you to know about my Aunt Helen and these are some details about her that made her unique. Family meant the world to her, not just her own but the entire family. She shared a very close relationship to my dad going back to when they were kids. I always thought that she was kind of a fashionista when she was young, but the reality is she was impeccably dressed through out her entire life. Even for those very casual summertime gatherings outside, her hair was always just perfect, her shorts and blouse matched, and she had a great collection of jewelry that she paired with her outfits. Aunt Helen was a special lady with a kind heart and word for everyone. All of our family likes to sit around and tell the stories of our lives and laugh at them and Aunt Helen’s laugh was infectious. Her generation grew up in a very difficult time in our nation’s history and you could see it in the way the lived their lives. Like the rest of her family Aunt Helen managed through with dignity and perseverance. I miss our letter exchanges and being able to talk to her during my visits, but I do have the photos and the memories that I can visit anytime I want. Love you and miss you Aunt Helen! #lhotp #littlehouseontheprairie #minnesota #time #aunt #therealingallsfamily #lauraingallswilder #melissagilbert #photooftheday #familyiseverything #family #ingalls
